Far-infrared optical absorption and reflectivity of a superconducting NbN film.
We report measurements of bolometric absorption and absolute reflectivity of a thin film of NbN on a silicon substrate, above and below the superconducting transition temperature of 13.3 K. The opening of the gap at an energy of 3.9 kB Tc is seen clearly in both types of measurement. The data are compared with the predictions of the Mattis-Bardeen theory. The change in the reflectivity and the ...
متن کاملSubstrate-sensitive mid-infrared photoresponse in graphene.
We report mid-infrared photocurrent spectra of graphene nanoribbon arrays on SiO2 dielectrics showing dual signatures of the substrate interaction. First, hybrid polaritonic modes of graphene plasmons and dielectric surface polar phonons produce a thermal photocurrent in graphene with spectral features that are tunable by gate voltage, nanoribbon width, and light polarization. Second, phonon po...
متن کاملBROADBAND MID-INFRARED SOLID-STATE LASERS Broadband Mid-Infrared Lasers
A survey of broadband Co2+and Cr2+-based lasers is presented. These mid-IR sources, operating in the very interesting “molecular fingerprint” region between ∼1.6 and 3.5μm offer the broadest bandwidth from all solid-state vibronic lasers. The emphasize is made on Cr2+-doped lasers, which have not only the widest and the highest gain, but also operate at room-temperature and produce the shortest...
متن کاملBroadband high photoresponse from pure monolayer graphene photodetector.
Graphene has attracted large interest in photonic applications owing to its promising optical properties, especially its ability to absorb light over a broad wavelength range, which has lead to several studies on pure monolayer graphene-based photodetectors. However, the maximum responsivity of these photodetectors is below 10 mA W(-1), which significantly limits their potential for application...
متن کاملInfrared transmissometer to measure the thickness of NbN thin films.
We present an optical setup that can be used to characterize the thicknesses of thin NbN films to screen samples for fabrication and to better model the performance of the resulting superconducting nanowire single photon detectors. The infrared transmissometer reported here is easy to use, gives results within minutes, and is nondestructive. Thus, the thickness measurement can be easily integra...
